Heinz Is Releasing a Limited-Edition Mustard, and It’s Better Than the Original

I live my life in pursuit of great mustards. I studied in France, a mere hour away from Dijon. I used to live near the National Mustard Museum in Wisconsin. I love this condiment so much that I have become a bit of a mustard snob (there are dozens of us).

When I saw that Heinz released not only a new mustard but a honey mustard, I was curious but skeptical. In my mustard-lovin’ opinion, honey mustard is tricky to get right. It can’t be too heavy-handed with its sweetness and lose that sharp mustard taste, but it should be sweeter than a yellow mustard.

I was shocked (shocked!) when it became the only mustard I reached for during the Fourth of July weekend.

What Is the New Heinz Mustard?

This isn’t mustard, it’s MUSTAAAAAARD. It’s a collaboration between Heinz and Dijon McFarlane, aka Mustard. He’s a record producer and DJ. If you watched the Super Bowl halftime show this year with Kendrick Lamar, then you saw Mustard when Kendrick brought him onstage for the closing song, “TV Off.”

The tag MUSTAAAAAARD can also be heard at the beginning of Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning song, “Not Like Us.” It’s gone platinum in my household and has become so iconic that every time I drip mustard on myself, I end up yelling “MUSTAAAAAARD!” and scaring my dog.

How Does the Heinz Mustaaaaaard Taste?

Heinz MUSTAAAAAARD is a chipotle honey mustard that delivers on both flavor promises. It's unmistakably mustard but with a distinctly sweet and smoky taste. I ate it on a hot dog on the Fourth of July and was blown away by how good it tasted.

I also had MUSTAAAAAARD the next day on a cheeseburger, and even with cheese, pickles, and barbecue sauce on the burger, the mustard flavors came through.

I’m finding every excuse to try it as a dipping sauce or spread. I made some mozzarella sticks in the air fryer last night and dipped them in the MUSTAAAAAARD. Baby carrots? MUSTAAAAAARD! Apparently, when you ask a DJ to remix mustard, it’s going to be a hit.

This is available for a limited time at Buffalo Wild Wings and will be at national grocery stores later this summer. If you are a mustard aficionado, you’ll want to pick one up.
