There are many reasons why The Great British Baking Show is such a delight to watch. Many fans love how kind the bakers are to one another, which makes it a soothing way to spend an hour. There’s one more thing that really stands out to me, and that’s just how much I’m learning about baking purely by osmosis.

If a baker’s loaf of bread doesn’t rise, Paul Hollywood might give valuable insight as to what went awry. When a cake’s flavors don’t meld, Prue Leith can give the baker tips on how to avoid that same mistake in the future.

I’m not even one to spend a ton of time baking, but I can hear Paul and Prue in my head even when I’m wandering through the grocery store—which is precisely what happened the first time I stumbled upon Aldi’s Deutsche Küche Cherry Frangipane Tarts.

I first learned what frangipane is on an episode of The Great British Baking Show. It’s a spreadable paste made from butter, sugar, eggs, almond flour, and almond extract. Frangipane is what makes almond croissants taste so delicious, and it’s also what makes this Aldi Cherry Frangipane Tart really sing.

Aldi Deutsche Küche Cherry Frangipane Tart

  • Price: $3.99 for a 14-ounce tart
  • Why I Love It: Aldi’s seasonal cherry frangipane tart is one of my favorite fall desserts. I love the combination of cherry and almond flavors with the shortcrust pastry. It’s especially delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Why I’m Excited for Aldi’s Deutsche Küche Cherry Frangipane Tart

The frozen Cherry Frangipane Tart is an item from Aldi’s popular Deutsche Küche line of seasonal German treats. Deutsche Küche means “German cuisine". The items descend on Aldi stores nationwide in time for Oktoberfest in mid-September, and it’s quite possibly my favorite time of year to shop at Aldi.

What stands out about this particular tart is the combination of cherry and almond flavors, which is one of my favorite dessert flavor profiles. In fact, they taste so good that they almost pass as a homemade treat, which is a huge win. Pop one in your oven and get ready for the most decadent bakery scents to waft through your kitchen.

It’s only $3.99 and also comes in an apple flavor, so there’s really no reason not to keep a few on hand in the freezer. The apple tart is equally tasty, with a classic flavor that makes it just as freezer-worthy as the cherry.

Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, these tarts make a really impressive showstopper for any fall dinner guests. And if you don’t have guests coming over, they can be a perfect nightcap to any weeknight meal.
