The first time I came across “crustless peanut butter and jelly sandwiches" in the freezer aisle, I laughed and thought, Who can’t make a PB&J at home?
Well, I'm eating my words now, because the crustless PB&Js currently rule my freezer. Influenced by their peers, my two kids asked to get Uncrustables, and before long, our whole family started reaching for them.
To keep costs down, I tried making crustless PB&Js at home. Pretty quickly, I found my time didn’t meet our demands. The kids grab them for a quick snack between school pickup and soccer practice; my husband often grabs two for his work commute; and I like them as a pre-workout meal. I couldn't keep up with our grab-and-go sandwich needs.
This all means I was really excited to see an Uncrustables dupe in the Aldi freezer aisle—I will happily buy them and save almost $1 per box.
Lunch Buddies Crustless Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly Sandwiches
- Price: $3.55 for a box of four
- Why I Love It: I can stock up on crustless PB&Js for the week without overspending (or spending extra time in the kitchen).

Why I Love Aldi’s Crustless PB&J Sandwiches
In case you’ve never had an Uncrustables sandwich, here's the deal: Each sandwich is two pieces of crustless, soft white bread pressed to make a pocket around layers of creamy peanut butter and jelly. They're individually wrapped, which makes them easy to thaw overnight in the fridge or for about 30 minutes at room temperature (although I know a few people who love to eat them partially thawed).
Aldi's Lunch Buddies Crustless Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches are a similar concept. They're made with soft white bread, creamy peanut butter, and grape jelly. Perhaps the only difference is that Aldi's sandwiches are square instead of round. This makes them slightly larger: Uncrustables weigh in at two ounces, while the Lunch Buddies weigh 2.2 ounces each.
The flavor and texture are nearly identical—I’m not sure I could tell them apart in a blindfolded taste test.
But the best thing about Aldi's version? A four-pack is $3.55, nearly a dollar cheaper than Uncrustables ($4.39 at Target right now). The sandwiches seem to be a permanent freezer find at Aldi, and right now is an excellent time to stock up. Just save a couple of boxes for me.
