When you think about it, a tube of refrigerated biscuits is nothing short of a marvel. Somehow, vacuum sealed in an airtight can hides a marvelous product that not only becomes buttery, flaky biscuits with almost no effort, but these magical circles of dough can also be transformed into a plethora of meals.

From breakfast all the way to dessert, there are countless creative recipes that start with a can of refrigerated biscuits. This is why I always keep a few tubes on hand.

Even better? The Great Value house brand biscuits at Walmart are a budget-friendly staple. In fact, they are almost a dollar less per can than the name brand option. At only $1.97, it is worth tossing a few in your cart on the next shopping trip.

Why I Love These Refrigerated Biscuits

I love the versatility of this product and how it can be used in both sweet and savory preparations. I have snipped each biscuit into pieces and used it for monkey bread. They can be pressed into a waffle iron, or rolled out into an individual-sized pizza. The biscuits can be the topping for a casserole or pressed into the bottom of a pan to form a crust.

Even after they are baked, the biscuits can take on a variety of roles. Sliced and used as sandwiches or sliders is an obvious option, as well as open-faced preparations just begging for a ladle-full of a sausage gravy. Day old biscuits can end up in breakfast casseroles or bread pudding.

Growing up, sometimes we would wake up on a weekend morning to the sweet aroma of a treat in the oven. This always meant my mom had the last minute urge to bake us something special, but didn’t have the time to do everything from scratch. That’s when her signature “speedy sticky buns” were on the breakfast table.

She would combine butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and pecans and press them on to the surface of refrigerated biscuits. They would then be arranged on a pie plate or cake pan and baked to perfection in a matter of minutes. There was no need to wait for a homemade yeast dough to proof, or to roll out and shape fancy buns.

We were perfectly content with buttery biscuits dripping with cinnamon-sugar and toasted nuts. Back then, I would wash it all down with a glass of milk. Today, they are incredible with a hot cup of coffee. I can’t wait until my own children are old enough to start craving this surprise breakfast treat just like I did. I will always have the key ingredient on hand when that day comes!
