Over 360,000 Pounds of Turkey Bacon Recalled for Listeria Contamination

On July 2, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Kraft Heinz Foods Company recalled 367,812 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon.

The recall was initiated after routine laboratory testing detected listeria, which can cause the foodborne illness listeriosis. This potentially dangerous bacterial infection can lead to fever, headache, a stiff neck, and gastrointestinal upset.

The turkey bacon was sold in 12-ounce, 36-ounce, and 48-ounce packages in major grocery stores like Walmart, Target, and Kroger, and could be in your refrigerator now.

Here's the product information that will determine whether your turkey bacon is part of this recall. The UPC is easy to find—it's right under the bar code on the back of the package.

Ritz Peanut Butter Crackers Recalled for Major Labeling Error

On July 8, Mondelēz Global LLC recalled Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches due to a label mix-up. The individually wrapped packs of crackers may bear a “cheese” cracker label, when really, they contain peanut butter. The snacks were sold at Target, Walmart, Kroger, and other major retailers across the country.

Peanuts are one of the most common food allergens in the nation, so if someone with the allergy were to eat one of the mislabeled crackers, the side effects could be severe.

Here’s how to identify the affected batch:

Bakery Bread Recalled in 12 States for Undisclosed Allergen

On July 10, Hartford Bakery, Inc. recalled six lots of its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf. The recall was issued after 883 loaves made with hazelnuts were mistakenly packaged as “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” white bread. While the packaging said the bread “may contain tree nuts,” it didn’t specify hazelnuts. The issue was linked to a packaging mix-up.

People with a severe allergy to hazelnuts could experience life-threatening allergic reactions if they accidentally eat this mislabeled product. The now-recalled bread was distributed to Kroger, Walmart, and other retailers across 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

The product comes in a flexible plastic bag marked with the following information:

Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf

  • Lot codes: T10 174010206, T10 174010306, T10 174010406, T10 174020206, T10 174020306, T10 174020406 (found on the front panel of the plastic bag)
  • UPC: 24126018152 (at the bottom of the package)
  • Expiration Date: 07/13/2025 (on the front panel of the package)

As of July 11, no one has reportedly fallen ill from mistakenly eating this product. If you or someone in your household has a hazelnut allergy, toss this bread immediately. You can request a full refund from the grocery store where you purchased the recalled bread.

If you have questions or concerns, contact Hartford Bakery at 1-812-425-4642, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. CST.
