On July 8, Mondelēz Global LLC—the makers of beloved Ritz crackers—recalled its popular Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches after a serious labeling error. This affects snack crackers sold at grocery stores across the country, including major chains like Target, Walmart, and Kroger.

The affected cartons contain individually wrapped snacks that may be incorrectly labeled as cheese crackers, even though they're peanut butter crackers.

Because peanuts are among the nine most common food allergens in the country, this is a serious recall. Families who send kids to a peanut-free summer camp or school should take note: If someone with a severe peanut allergy were to open one of the mislabeled cracker packs, the allergic reaction could be life-threatening.

How To Tell if You Have the Recalled Crackers

Mondelēz Global announced the recall after discovering that it was mistakenly using cheese snack packaging for its individually wrapped peanut butter snacks. Mondelēz says there have been no reports of a serious reaction yet, but if you pack snacks for someone with a peanut allergy, pay careful attention to the packaging.

This recall includes a cheese and peanut butter variety pack as well as Ritz Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers in 8-count, 20-count, and 40-count cartons.
