Cheese Sold at Sam’s Club Recalled for Listeria Contamination

On September 5, Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op in Middlefield, Ohio, recalled several types of cheese due to listeria contamination. Testing revealed listeria bacteria on the surfaces of cutting equipment in a production facility and on the cheese itself.

It was unclear which retailers sold the contaminated cheese until September 9, when Walmart announced the affected items were sold at Sam’s Club stores in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The FDA shared a full list of recalled cheese along with the affected sell-by dates. If you bought one of the recalled items, the co-op recommends that you toss the item and request a full refund from the grocery store. To ask questions, contact the Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op general manager, Nevin Byler, at 440-632-5567, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
