Ice cream is my go-to sweet in the summertime. As a nearly exclusive Trader Joe’s shopper, there is always a tub of TJ’s Ultra Chocolate Ice Cream or Coffee Bean Blast Ice Cream in my fridge.
While perusing the freezer section recently, I decided to purchase one of the store’s newest products: Italian Pistachio & Fior Di Latte Gelato Style Frozen Dessert. After living in Rome for six months, I can assure you that it is just as delicious as the scoops I would get from my favorite gelaterias!
Trader Joe’s Italian Pistachio & Fior Di Latte Gelato Style Frozen Dessert
- Price: $4.99 for a 28.74-ounce container
- Why I Love It: This new Trader Joe’s gelato reminds me of the scoops I have enjoyed at my favorite Italian gelaterias. I love the combination of nutty pistachio complemented by the creamy fior di latte.
Why I Love Trader Joe's Italian Pistachio & Fior Di Latte Gelato
The Italian Pistachio & Fior Di Latte Gelato Style Frozen Dessert is going to become your Italian summer staple. Half pistachio and half fior di latte, or Italian for “flower of milk,” this rich and creamy duo offers an unparalleled combination of authentic flavors.
Sourced from Italy, the product draws inspiration from popular gelato offerings, offering a single bite of bold nuttiness complemented by a subtle, sweet, milky taste that is unbeatable. At only $4.99 for almost two pints, you get two tasty desserts for the price of one.

How To Enjoy Trader Joe's Italian Pistachio & Fior Di Latte Gelato Style Frozen Dessert
Served together or separately, these gelato flavors check all of my boxes just as they are. However, if you want to elevate your scoop while embracing the Italian influence, I recommend these simple upgrades.
Reflecting on my time abroad, I often gravitated towards one gelato flavor in particular: stracciatella. By mixing chocolate shreds into the fior di latte, you can easily recreate one of Italy’s most popular and traditional gelato flavors. I recommend sticking your favorite chocolate bar in the refrigerator, then shaving it with a peeler to create little shards you can easily mix into the gelato.
As for another iconic Italian dessert, brew a shot of espresso and pour it over either flavor to create an affogato. The gelato serves as a sweet cream to temper the boldness of the espresso, transforming the coffee into a sweet syrup.
Next time you are at Trader Joe’s, grab a container or two of the Italian Pistachio & Fior Di Latte Gelato Style Frozen Dessert. This limited-time product is only available from June to August, so be sure to dig in before the season ends.
