I love Halloween. I'm a fan of spooky season and all that comes with it: decorating our front stoop, baking apple desserts, scary movies, and of course, Halloween candy. Growing up, I could never resist Caramel Apple Pops. I loved the way the tart green apple candy paired with the soft, sweet caramel. My mouth is watering at the thought!
It took me a minute, but I finally found the adult version of that childhood favorite: Werther's Original Caramel Apple Soft Chews. I've bought the caramels for the last couple of years, and whenever I spot them on shelves, I know my favorite time of year has arrived.
This year, with Halloween candy being more expensive than ever, I was thrilled to discover bags of these Werther's at Dollar Tree for only $1.25.
Werther's Original Caramel Apple Soft Chews
- Price: $1.25 for a 2.22-ounce bag
- Why I Love It: The chewy texture and bright apple tang of each caramel instantly remind me of fall. I can't resist filling a candy dish with a bag (or two).

Why I Love This Werther’s Candy
Werther's Original Caramel Apple Soft Chews are very soft caramels flavored with a sour kick of green apple. The combination is spot-on and instantly reminds me of the sucker version from childhood, only distilled down to the best parts: the chewy caramel and that bright apple tang. It's the perfect little treat when you need something sweet.
I first tried a bag of caramel apple caramels because, while I love a caramel apple, I would never make them at home. I find making caramel sticky and temperamental, and store-bought caramel apples can be a mess to eat. These chews promised the same cozy combo of tart apple and buttery caramel without the fuss or cleanup.
This candy is not your grandma's Werther's. It balances the buttery richness with a sharp, tangy apple bite. That tartness keeps the candy from tipping into overly sweet territory. The texture of the caramels is pleasantly soft, so you don't have to worry about pulling a tooth. They are delicious straight out of the bag, but I also like to keep a handful of candies in the refrigerator. The cold makes the caramel a little firmer, which I like, and a little refreshing.
These chews are made for anyone who wants the taste of caramel apples without the work or the mess. While they won't replace the crunch of a fresh apple, they still deliver plenty of nostalgic fall flavor.
