My mom's Christmas cookie tins were legendary. They included layers of shortbread, homemade turtles, almond brittle, and whoopie pies. Stacked neatly inside jolly, reusable tins with snowmen and plaid patterns.
The Christmas before she died, I remember an extra-large cookie tin sitting in our room when my partner and I arrived for the holidays. Receiving one always signaled the start of the season, and now, my sister and I carry on that tradition with the same style of tins.
I find mine at Dollar Tree for a price that continues to amaze me every year. For just $1.50, I can get a package of two sturdy, sealable tins with bright, festive designs. At 75 cents per tin, they're a cute and economical way to share my homemade treats, which is why I always grab several when I first see them on the shelves.
Dollar Tree Christmas Tins
- Price: $1.50 for two tins with lids
- Why I Love It: They’re festive, affordable, and endlessly practical—making it easy to share homemade treats in a way that feels both thoughtful and stress-free.
These tins have become as much a part of my December routine as baking the cookies that go inside them. They make it easy for me to package all my homemade treats in a thoughtful and celebratory way.
With a simple parchment or wax paper liner, they're the ideal container for a variety of treats, including holiday cookies, easy fudge, no-bake cheesecake bites, caramel corn, roasted nuts, Chex Mix, and more. A simple liner acts as a clean barrier, making the tin food-safe by protecting the food from any transference and metallic flavor, and preventing grease from seeping into it (sometimes a double layer is needed).

Why I Love Dollar Tree's Christmas Tins
I love that they're instantly festive, without the need for wrapping paper, ribbons, or bows. The bright prints and metallic finishes give any gift a more intentional presentation, requiring no extra effort.
I buy them every year for the gifts I plan to share, but I also make sure to keep a few empty ones on hand. That way, I can bake several batches of treats to freeze, and pull some out to fill a tin any time I need a last-minute gift. This hack saves me time and stress during this busy time of year, which is incredibly helpful and handy for unexpected company, an unplanned reciprocal gift, or an accidentally forgotten present on my part.
If you're a "Mass Gifter," like an office manager, or anyone giving 10-plus identical treats, these tins offer a thoughtful, organized, and stress-free way to show you care. They're also perfect for cookie swap parties, where everyone wants/needs to take home their haul in something sturdy and pretty.
If I have any left over, I know I'll use them again the following year. However, they could easily be repurposed for other, non-perishable gifts, such as hygiene supplies, warm socks and gloves for shelters, holiday craft kits for kids or classrooms, and handmade toiletries like bath bombs or bags of bath salts.
They can be decorative storage for all of the small holiday items you never know what to do with, like ribbon, gift tags, and tape. The best part is that recipients can also reuse and regift them!
If you're someone who loves sharing homemade treats or small, thoughtful gifts during the holidays, do yourself a favor and stock up on these tins. They are a classic holiday choice that brings a generous spirit and a functional solution to the gifting part of the season.
