The $2.69 Aldi Freezer Find So Good I Buy 2 Boxes at a Time

They’re “insanely good.”

About a year or so ago, Aldi had some chocolate-covered dried strawberries as a special, and my family couldn’t get enough of them. But, like so many Aldi products, the treats came and went. But I recently spied a package of frozen chocolate-covered fruit in the freezer section, so I had to grab one to try it.

After sampling both flavors, my family says it’s a draw as to which tastes better.

  • Why I Love It: Available in two flavors (strawberry and peanut butter banana), these bite-sized frozen treats are always a hit with my family. It’s impossible to eat just one!

Why I Love Aldi’s Season’s Choice Dark Chocolate-Covered Fruit

A 5.3-ounce package of Season’s Choice Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries or Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Bananas only costs $2.69, and there are five servings of five pieces each in a package.

I first saw the strawberries, so I tossed them into my cart, then spotted the banana version, which I bought as well. When I got home, my 15-year-old son immediately helped himself to the package of dark chocolate-covered strawberries, and by helped, I mean he ate the entire package within 15 minutes. Then, he went bananas over the bananas, so I ended up returning to Aldi to buy two more packages of each variety.

Once I finally got to try them, I understood why he ate both packages, but I’m not sure how he consumed the first one so quickly because biting into a single dark chocolate-covered strawberry almost gave me brain freeze. Brain freeze aside, these frozen chocolate-dipped fruit treats are “insanely good,” my son told me. And I agree that they are.

The dark chocolate melds perfectly with the sweet, frozen strawberries, but I think the dark chocolate and peanut butter-covered bananas are even better. The frozen banana melts into the creamy, sweet peanut butter and chocolate, and they reminded me of a peanut butter and banana sundae I once had at an ice cream shop on vacation. I didn’t realize that the frozen banana variety had peanut butter, but the PB made it even better.

My husband, who loves bananas, also picked that as his favorite. My son, however, was more partial to the berry treats. “But it’s hard to pick a favorite because they’re both so, so good,” he said.

By themselves, one or two berry or banana treats are a perfect end to a meal, or a nice pick-me-up in the middle of a busy afternoon. But I think they also could be added to sundaes and trifles and be great toppings on cakes, especially strawberry shortcake. Unfortunately, they don’t last long enough in my house for me to add them to desserts.
