Years ago when I studied abroad in France, my friend and I took a day trip to Monaco, the tiny European principality known for its annual Grand Prix. While walking around, we stumbled upon a truly mystifying find: an American-themed sports bar. Obviously, we ate a meal there.
After three months in Europe, we were homesick for American comfort food, and there was so much of it at this restaurant—most notably, an appetizer sampler. As we dove into potato skins, mozzarella sticks, and jalapeño poppers at a table overlooking a port filled with yachts, we truly felt rich.
Appetizers are my favorite part of any meal. While I am a mozzarella stick loyalist through and through, I do hold a special place in my heart for the jalapeño popper. Which is why every time I see Mama Cozzi’s Jalapeño Popper Pizza at Aldi, I grab as many as my freezer will hold..
Mama Cozzi’s Jalapeño Popper Pizza
- Price: $3.99 for a 14-ounce pizza
- Why I Love It: With a garlicky white sauce, cheesy topping, and spicy kick, this pizza tastes exactly like a jalapeño popper. I especially love cutting it up into bite-sized squares and serving it as a game-day snack.

Why I Love Aldi’s Mama Cozzi’s Jalapeño Popper Pizza
This pizza shouldn’t work as well as it does, but boy, is it delicious. It takes all the classic flavors of the appetizer staple and turns them into a beautiful thin-crust pizza. There is no tomato sauce here, only a creamy white garlic sauce. It’s topped with a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, plus plenty of diced jalapeño. And yes, it does have a spicy kick!
I think that this pizza is a better way to enjoy all of these flavors together, because I frequently encounter really disappointing jalapeño poppers. They’re either too hot with cheese that has melted out, too greasy, or the breaded coating has separated from the jalapeño, making it impossible to eat. Removing the guesswork and skill of deep-frying works in the pizza's favor. In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is even better than the appetizer it’s inspired by.
I love making this as a late-night snack or as a game day appetizer alongside plenty of other finger foods. My hot tip is to cut this pizza into bite-sized squares so that it’s easier to share and more fun to eat. Whenever I make this, it disappears super quickly, and everyone is impressed by the flavor. The next time you’re at Aldi, head to the freezer section and pick up a couple of these pizzas—that is, if I haven’t grabbed them all first.
