Salmonella Cases from this Recall
As of May 23, officials believe the cucumbers have sickened 26 people, including nine hospitalizations. Of the 13 people interviewed thus far, 11 (85%) reported eating cucumbers.
According to the CDC, most people who contract a salmonella infection experience symptoms anywhere from six hours to six days after consuming the bacteria. Symptoms often include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. While most people tend to recover within a week without treatment, children under the age of 5 years, adults 65 years and older, and people with weakened immune systems are at high risk of more intense complications.
What to Do With Recalled Cucumbers
If you suspect you bought one of these affected cucumbers, toss them immediately. The most important thing is to remove the item from your fridge and sanitize any surfaces or other items the affected produce item may have come in contact with.
