There’s nothing more innocent than fluffy, sweet cotton candy. While it’s usually found at state fairs, circuses, sporting events, and carnivals, you can also make it at home with the right appliance—like the Aldi Ambiano Cotton Candy Maker. But that innocence fades once you realize the treat can easily become flammable if it’s not spun correctly.
On September 18, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of about 21,690 Ambiano Cotton Candy Makers sold at Aldi due to a fire hazard.
The appliance, which retailed for $15 at Aldi between August 2024 and September 2024, is being pulled from store shelves nationwide after Wuensche USA received 12 reports from consumers that the appliance sparked a fire during the cotton candy-making process.

Specifically, the heating element within the Ambiano Cotton Candy maker can cause sugar to ignite if the user doesn’t use the included sugar receptacle. The sugar receptacle (also known as the sugar chamber) is the part of a cotton candy maker where sugar is heated, melted, and spun through tiny holes to form the fine threads of cotton candy.
To date, no injuries have been reported from using this appliance. Still, the CPSC urges those who purchased the appliance to return it to Aldi immediately for a refund.

How To Identify the Recalled Cotton Candy Maker
The Ambiano Cotton Candy Maker comes in two colors: teal and red. Each appliance has a plastic cover on top. The model number to look for is 836098, along with the date code 08/2024, which can be found printed on the packaging at the bottom of the unit.

If you have the affected item, you can return the fully intact cotton candy maker to any Aldi retail location for a full refund. Alternatively, you can submit a photo of the cotton candy maker with the above model number and date code visible to Wuensche at service@801service.net. You must also show evidence that you can no longer use the appliance, so consider cutting the unplugged power cord.
