Sauces are a big thing in my house. With a 15-year-old athlete who loves to dip all of his proteins in different sauces, my refrigerator door is crowded with his favorites. Well, after this week's trip to ALDI, that space got even more packed, as I found a delicious barbecue sauce that we can’t get enough of.
ALDI Burman’s Mild BBQ Sauce
- Price: $3.29 for a 15.5-ounce bottle
- Why I Love It: This sweet, tangy, and smoky condiment is my new go-to BBQ sauce. I love that it pairs nicely with both chicken and pork, and has a straightforward, simple ingredient list.
Why I Love ALDI Burman’s Mild BBQ Sauce
I spied the new sauces, which come in three flavors (Mild, Gold, and Hot Honey), on the edge of an aisle and picked one up to read the ingredients. Except for xanthan gum, a natural thickener used in salad dressings and gluten-free breads, the ingredients were all things you'd expect in a barbecue sauce, like molasses, garlic powder, and clove powder.
Since my family loves plenty of other Burman’s sauces, I grabbed a 15.5-ounce bottle of the Mild Sauce for $3.29, as it sounded similar to the Kansas City sweet sauces my family tends to favor.
Its description as “sweet, tangy & slightly smoky with a gentle heat” described it perfectly. It was definitely sweet from the molasses and brown sugar, but not overly so. The sauce also had a slightly smoky tang to it, with a depth of spice from the clove, ginger, and nutmeg that added to the backbone of flavor.

Because it’s a barbecue sauce, I first tried it on chicken thighs. I basted them with the sauce just a few minutes before taking them out of the oven, and they tasted great. I also tried it on shredded pork, and again, it was a winner.
Next, I tested the sauce on some chicken pineapple meatballs from Trader Joe’s as a snack. This was probably one of my favorite pairings, so the next time I have a party or need to bring a potluck dish, I am throwing a couple of packages of meatballs with a can of shredded pineapple and a bottle of this sauce.
My son, the dipping king, has tried this on chicken nuggets, leftover steak, and even takeout spring rolls. He says it works well with a variety of flavors. I’m going to make sure I have a bottle or two of it in my pantry because, come barbecue season, this sauce will pair beautifully with so many of our favorite summer dishes.
