For a long time, I lived without an electric kettle. Those were the dark days of waiting ages for a kettle to boil on the stove or sticking mugs of water into the microwave to heat them (gasp!). Then I visited Europe as a broke 20-something and noticed everyone, and I mean everyone had an electric kettle. I was amazed at how quickly they heated up, boiling in mere seconds. I immediately went home and bought a cheap one.
I've owned a few different models over the years, and each time I upgrade a bit. It's an appliance I use every single day, often more than once a day—how many kitchen appliances can you say that about?
My latest model and current obsession is the Cuisinart Stainless Steel Electric Kettle. It's the perfect size, it's sleek-looking sitting on my counter, and it has some clever presets. It's also on sale for 26% off for Amazon's Big Spring Sale.
It's Not Just for Tea
If you're a tea drinker, then owning a good electric kettle is a no-brainer. It will save you so much time, allowing you to drink more tea since you'll spend less time making it. I don't have the exact figures on how much faster an electric kettle boils water than on the stove, but it is much, much faster. There is no comparison.
And you don't have to be a tea fanatic like me to justify owning an electric kettle. If you drink pour-over or French press coffee, then it's a must. It's also handy for cooking and baking—recipes sometimes call for boiling or very hot water, and you can have some on hand in record time.

How I Use This Tea Kettle
The Cuisinart Electric Kettle (currently a steal at $73) is easy to use, with an open button that pops the top open for easy filling, six pre-set temperatures, a start button, and a keep warm button.
The pre-sets are optimized for different types of tea (oolong, green, black, and white) as well as French press/coffee. The temperatures are specified, in case you're not making any of these things but would like a specific temperature of hot water. I select the button for whatever type of beverage I'm making or hit the 200°F (French press) button for plain old boiling water.
I highly recommend using filtered water to fill up your kettle. It will keep hard minerals from building up on the bottom and sides of the interior of the kettle, meaning you rarely have to clean it if you're only adding water. You'll also end up with the best-tasting beverages.
