Afton Cyrus is a food writer and editor, recipe developer, and culinary instructor based in New England. As a former elementary educator, she specializes in teaching fundamental techniques and instilling confidence in the kitchen for home cooks of all levels.
After pivoting from a career in education to one in food, Afton spent 8 years at America's Test Kitchen, where she created and edited content for multiple New York Times bestselling and IACP Award-winning cookbooks. She was also a founding member and the Deputy Food Editor of America's Test Kitchen Kids, creating print, digital, podcast, and YouTube cooking content for kids of all ages. Today, she is a food blogger and photographer at The Reader’s Kitchen, a chef instructor at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, and a food writer whose work appears in print and online for America's Test Kitchen, Serious Eats, The Kitchn, King Arthur Baking Company, and cookbooks for Ten Speed Press, in addition to her work for Simply Recipes.
