Key Takeaways
• For ultra-creamy guacamole, seal pitted, peeled avocados in a resealable plastic bag and squish away.
• Add any favorite seasonings like salt, onion, and bacon and squish to blend.
Are you #TeamCreamy when it comes to guacamole? Perhaps you like the scoopability of it or maybe chunky food bits aren’t your thing. If you like your guac smooth like butter, then you’ll need to check your supply of resealable plastic bags because it’s the secret to the creamiest guacamole.
The Classic Fork Smash
I usually use a sophisticated technique for smashing my avocados for guacamole. It’s called “press firmly with the back of a fork.” I know, it’s pretty advanced (I did go to culinary school), but It works well for me and it’s honestly the only way I’ve ever made guacamole.
I’m not on #TeamCreamy, but I’m (mostly) always interested to see what strange things people are doing to food on social media. I love avocados and guacamole, so when I came across this post on Instagram, I had to watch. And then watch again. Was that really a plastic bag he was using?
For the Creamiest Guac, Use a Plastic Bag
It turns out that it was. In case you haven’t seen it, the creator seeds and peels several avocados and drops them into a resealable plastic bag. He grips the bag closed at the top and gives the avocados a few squeezes before re-opening the bag and adding salt, diced onion and chopped, crispy bacon.
Then he fully seals the bag and squeezes and squishes everything together a little more aggressively until the avocados are fully smashed. The result is a buttery smooth guacamole (except for those bits of bacon and onion). It’s pretty and pipeable, if you’re into that.
We Can Coexist
Creamy guac isn’t for me, but that doesn’t mean I can’t support those who like it. I’m behind anyone who appreciates an avocado smashed with their favorite seasonings and additions. I keep my guacamole simple. My only additions are lime juice, jalapeño, cilantro, salt, and onion. I like it that way and so does my family.
When I’m entertaining or bringing guac to a party, I’ll often bring diced tomatoes, pickled jalapeños, pickled red onion, diced mango, toasted pumpkin seeds, and other random knick-knacks for people to add. If they want to throw theirs into a plastic bag and smash it smooth, that’s okay by me. Food is fun and if you need to play with it a bit before enjoying it, I totally get it.
