Why Make This

• While more wholesome than decadent, this frozen yogurt recipe still tastes like fro-yo.
• You only need three ingredients to make it: yogurt (preferably full-fat), frozen fruit, and honey.
• The frozen yogurt takes less than five minutes to make and is endlessly customizable.

Come summertime, I crave sweets and frozen treats like it’s my day job. I’m conditioned to listen for a passing ice cream truck, march into a local ice cream parlor, and fill my cup to the brim with self-serve fro-yo. I love ice cream as much as the next person—give me a pint of your creamiest ice cream (salted caramel, please), load it onto a fresh waffle cone, and I am in heaven.

Sometimes, I crave something a little more wholesome than a decadent treat. That’s when I whip up this easy-peasy 3-ingredient frozen yogurt. It calls for just yogurt, frozen fruit, and something sweet, like honey—yes, it's basically everything I add to my breakfast yogurt so who says I can't have fro-yo first thing in the morning?

I keep a tub of this impossibly easy, slightly lazy, and 100% delicious treat in the freezer for after dinner, an afternoon treat, and even for an icy breakfast.

The Best Yogurt for Homemade Fro-Yo

I love using Greek yogurt for its thick and creamy texture, but any yogurt will work! My pick is a full-fat plain yogurt for added creaminess and tang. Full-fat yogurt is also less likely to become an unscoopable brick when frozen. If your family prefers, use vanilla or flavored yogurt. This means you may need to add less honey or leave it out.

4 Ways To Take Your Frozen Yogurt to the Next Level

  1. Use frozen mango and pineapple, and add a handful of shredded coconut at the end.
  2. Use a combination of berries: strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.
  3. Make peaches and cream fro-yo with frozen peaches plus a splash of vanilla extract.
  4. Take inspiration from chocolate-covered bananas: Use frozen bananas, vanilla yogurt, and a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder.

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  2. Adjust sweetness, if needed:

Taste it at this point and add more honey if your fruit isn't sweet enough or if you'd like a sweeter treat.

  3. Freeze:

Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and freeze until firm, 2 to 4 hours. Scoop and enjoy!
